Intentional Rest: Restorative Yoga and Yoga Nidra with Katie Blecker (May 16th 2020)

Feeling stressed, tired, or in need of some powerful self-care? Discover the healing power of conscious rest through the combined practices of restorative yoga and yoga nidra. Restorative yoga postures gently guide the body and mind into a state of comfort and relaxation, setting the stage for a deeply restful, therapeutic guided meditation practice called yoga nidra. In this way, we gradually prepare the body and mind for an experience of quiet and ease, which allows our systems to rest, replenish, and invite healing on many levels.

This two hour experience is open to all levels of practice (including true beginners) and anyone who is comfortable with lying on the floor with the support of props. Space is limited to 10 participants so that each person has access to plentiful props and guidance in setting things up ‘just right’ for cultivating deep rest. The first hour or so will be dedicated to a few restorative postures and then we’ll move into the guided meditation journey.

Yoga nidra is the art and science of yogic sleep. You’ll be guided through a systematic series of instructions that gradually move your awareness inward. While your body experiences the physiological effects of sleep, your mind settles into a place of inner awareness. You’ll be guided through how to work with a sankalpa (your heart’s deepest intention) which is a personal statement about something meaningful that you wish to call forth in your life. For some, the state of yoga nidra is a profound and introspective place. For others, it’s a chance to receive the physical benefits of true rest and relaxation. It’s commonly said that an hour or less of yoga nidra compares to 3-4 hours of actual deep sleep.

Katie Blecker has over 650 hours of training and offers yoga and meditation as practices for cultivating connection, embodiment, and ease in everyday life. She leads classes in accessible and gentle styles of yoga - offering variations, options, and creative ways to use yoga props. Katie is trained in yoga nidra facilitation and considers it an honor to hold space for practitioners to experience this profound practice. She recognizes that yoga nidra is very nuanced and requires a great deal of care and responsibility from the individual guiding the practice. In all of Katie’s offerings, her primary focus is on creating safer spaces for people to explore their relationships to their bodies, minds, and hearts. You will find that her classes contain plenty of opportunities for choice-making, invitational language, and an emphasis on mindfulness.
